We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Business Development to lead enterprise-level growth for our addiction therapy division. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this senior leadership position is responsible for designing and executing a high-impact, multi-state business development strategy that significantly increases census across detox, residential, PHP / IOP, and virtual programs. You will serve as the primary architect of revenue expansion, forging strategic partnerships with healthcare systems, EAPs, unions, insurers, and large referral networks while overseeing a team of regional outreach professionals. This is an executive-tier role for a proven closer and relationship builder who thrives at the intersection of mission-driven behavioral health and sophisticated, ethical sales leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a comprehensive business development strategy to drive sustained double-digit census and revenue growth across all levels of care (detox, residential, MAT, dual-diagnosis, and telehealth).
- Identify, negotiate, and secure high-volume referral contracts and strategic alliances with hospitals, health systems, managed care organizations, employee assistance programs, labor unions, and government entities.
- Oversee, mentor, and scale a team of regional business development representatives, setting aggressive yet achievable quotas and ensuring alignment with clinical and ethical standards.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for C-suite and executive-level stakeholders at key accounts, delivering data-driven presentations on clinical outcomes, ROI, and network value.
- Direct market intelligence and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities, new service-line potential, and geographic expansion priorities.
- Partner with clinical leadership to co-create and launch specialized programming that meets the specific needs of enterprise partners (e.g., first-responder tracks, executive treatment cohorts, industry-specific protocols).
- Represent the organization as a thought leader at national conferences, industry summits, and policy forums, elevating brand authority in addiction and behavioral health.
- Collaborate with marketing, admissions, and utilization review teams to optimize the entire client journey from first contact through funding approval and admission.
- Ensure full compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, anti-kickback statutes, and ethical marketing guidelines in all outreach and contracting activities.
- Deliver accurate revenue forecasting, pipeline reporting, and strategic updates to the executive team and board of directors.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, or related field strongly preferred.10+ years of progressive business development experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or director-level role within behavioral health, addiction treatment, or healthcare services.Demonstrated history of personally closing and managing multi-million-dollar referral contracts and achieving aggressive year-over-year growth targets.Deep existing network within the Midwest / Ohio Valley (and preferably national) behavioral health ecosystemincluding health systems, payers, EAPs, unions, and large employer groups.Exceptional executive presence, negotiation skills, and ability to influence C-suite decision-makers while maintaining strict ethical boundaries.Proven leadership experience building and scaling high-performing outreach teams in the addiction or mental health space.Strong command of payer dynamics, utilization review processes, and value-based care models specific to substance use disorder treatment.Sophisticated understanding of digital and data-driven marketing funnels, CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), and revenue analytics.Willingness to travel up to 50% throughout Ohio, the Midwest, and nationally for key account development and industry events.Personal passion for the mission of addiction recovery combined with the discipline and resilience required in a high-stakes growth environment.Compensation
Competitive base salary of $130,000$180,000 (depending on experience and existing book of business) plus an uncapped performance incentive plan tied directly to net revenue growth and strategic contract wins.
