Working Title:

Assistant Professor of Piano

Department:

Franklin-School of Music

About the University of Georgia:

Chartered by the state of Georgia in 1785, the University of Georgia is the birthplace of public higher education in America and is the state’s flagship university (https://www.uga.edu/). The proof is in our more than 240 years of academic and professional achievements and our continual commitment to higher education. UGA is currently ranked among the top 20 public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The University’s main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton. UGA employs approximately 3,100 faculty and more than 7,700 full-time staff. The University’s enrollment exceeds 41,000 students including over 31,000 undergraduates and over 10,000 graduate and professional students. Academic programs reside in 19 schools and colleges, including our newly established School of Medicine.

About the College/Unit/Department:

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music (www.music.uga.edu) is among the leading schools of music in the region and nationally. Home to approximately five hundred students and a faculty of sixty-five, the Hodgson School includes comprehensive programs, with degrees at the undergraduate level through the master’s and doctorate. Our celebrated faculty, outstanding facilities, and talented students build a supportive and rich environment for artistic and scholarly growth. Each year the School hosts nearly 350 public performances. Graduates from our programs have been internationally successful in their chosen fields.

The HHSOM piano area (https://music.uga.edu/piano) features internationally recognized faculty, attracting award-winning young musicians from the United States and abroad. The Hodgson School became Georgia’s first All-Steinway School in 1996 and boasts outstanding performance and practice facilities with keyboard instruments maintained by two full-time Steinway-trained piano technicians. Of note are recent purchases of a Steinway Spirio piano, a Hamburg concert grand, and 30 new practice instruments. The piano area benefits from a collaborative relationship with the nationally recognized UGA Performing Arts Center, with regular masterclasses by acclaimed PAC artists including, in 2025-2026, Angela Hewitt, Haochen Zhang, Leif-Ove Andsnes, and Isata Kanneh-Mason. Piano faculty also host regional and national symposia, including serving as host for three national festivals of the American Liszt Society, an annual Piano Symposium, and a biennial Chamber Music Athens festival. Piano area students benefit from ample opportunities, including a biennial showcase at Steinway Hall in New York City.
The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences is the heart of UGA’s learning environment, advancing knowledge, research, and creative activity across more than 40 departments, schools, and institutes. With a vision for high-impact research and education, Franklin College prepares students for leadership and global engagement in a sustainable future. The College has a strong commitment to multidisciplinary research, collaboration and academic innovation.
