Position Overview

We are seeking a Engineering Staff Associate to join our growing team, contributing to diverse projects across environmental, civil, geotechnical, geostructure, and construction material testing disciplines. This role is ideal for individuals looking to develop their skills, gain hands-on experience, and progress towards professional licensure. You will be a vital part of our project teams, supporting senior staff and learning the ins and outs of engineering consulting from the ground up.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in from an ABET accredited school in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 0-2 years of years of relevant environmental consulting experience preferred (internships / co-ops count).
- Currently in progress towards obtaining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification, if applicable.
- Required to travel regularly to local and regional project sites (typically within South Carolina and surrounding states), potentially including overnight stays and perform extensive fieldwork under varying environmental conditions, including adverse weather, uneven terrain, and potentially hazardous environments, while adhering strictly to health and safety protocols.

Skills & Components
Technical Expertise : Develop and apply foundational knowledge in environmental regulations, civil design principles, geotechnical investigations, and construction material testing. Conduct environmental field sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, and air) following standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines. Support environmental field investigations, including soil and rock sampling, drilling oversight, and in-situ testing. Perform environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II ESAs) under the supervision of a Project Manager. Assist with soil and groundwater remediation efforts under the direction of a Senior Professional. Assist with laboratory testing of soil, rock, groundwater, and surface water samples, and record results per EPA and State standards. Compile and analyze field and laboratory data for technical reports and regulatory submittals. Assist with data entry, figure preparation, and report writing.Client Relationship Management : Begin to understand the importance of client satisfaction. Assist in clear and concise communication with clients regarding project updates and data, always under the guidance of senior staff. Learn how to maintain professional demeanor and build rapport.Quality Control and Assurance : Adhere strictly to company and project-specific quality control procedures. Assist in reviewing data and reports for accuracy and completeness, learning the principles of quality assurance in a consulting environment. Prepare and maintain accurate field documentation, including field logs, chain-of-custody forms, and daily reports.Project Planning and Scheduling : Contribute to the development of project work plans and schedules by assisting with task breakdown and resource allocation. Learn to track personal progress against project timelines and communicate potential delays to project managers.Risk Management and Compliance : Develop an understanding of project-specific risks and assist in identifying potential hazards. Learn to follow all safety protocols and regulatory compliance requirements on project sites and in the office. Familiarity with environmental regulations (RCRA, CERCLA, ASTM E1527 / E1903) a plus. 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire).Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work effectively as a supportive team member, collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, geologists, and scientists from various disciplines to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget. Learn to contribute to a positive and productive team environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Contracts and Vendor Management : Gain exposure to project contracts and assist with the initial stages of vendor coordination under senior guidance. Understand the importance of adherence to contractual obligations.Business Development : Support business development efforts by assisting with proposal preparation, data compilation for marketing materials, and understanding the firm's service offerings. Learn to recognize potential opportunities for new work.Performance Analytics : Learn to track and report on individual project progress and time utilization. Begin to understand key performance indicators relevant to project efficiency and profitability.Working Conditions
Field assignments require working outdoors in variable weather and site conditions.Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks as part of fieldwork.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and data management tools.Why Join Us?
