Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN with at least one year of Med / Surg Tele experience and an active NM or compact license for a busy hospital float assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Med / Surg Telemetry unit within a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 5, with possible ratios of 1 : 6 due to high capacity
  • Travelers will float between MS / Tele, PCU, and lower acuity settings within their skillset, and may float to the ED
  • Day shifts are available (3x12 hours, 7 : 00–19 : 30)
  • Weekend coverage required for at least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule, subject to unit needs
  • Charting is done using Cerner EMR
  • IV starts and telemetry monitoring are required skills for the unit
  • No local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Work in a comprehensive stroke center with high patient volume
  • Scrub color is black and is not provided by the facility
  • No on-call requirements for this position
  • OT must be pre-approved and is rarely granted
  • RTO requests longer than 10 days require approval; preference given to holiday bundles
  • No RTO is permitted during the first or last week of the contract
  • Travelers may work up to 12 consecutive months before a required break
  • Parking is available at no cost
  • Mandatory P / F testing required prior to start
  • Modules and orientation will be completed during the first week

    • Requirements

  • Active NM or compact RN license (pending license accepted at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent MS / Tele RN experience
  • Required certifications : ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions are considered with the proper documentation
  • Must have experience with telemetry and IV starts
  • Must provide a valid non-local driver's license or a written transportation plan
  • RQI certifications are not accepted
