Overview
The Product Developer is an integral part of the product creation process, working closely with Design, Technical Design, and Merchandising to bring creative concepts to life. This role requires exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to manage workflows effectively and ensure alignment between creative intent, manufacturing capabilities, and market demands.
Responsibilities
Development Calendar & Process
- Ensure adherence to the product development calendar, driving cross-functional teams to meet deadlines for on-time delivery.
- Maintain the fabric library, ensuring all swatches include pertinent details (factory, costing, material composition, etc.).
- Partner with designers to translate creative ideas into physical products, guiding the process from design handoff through production.
Supplier Management
Determine production placement with team and leadership alignment.Source new suppliers and conduct counter-sourcing exercises as needed.Maintain accurate supplier records, manage daily communication with overseas vendors, and foster strong relationships to ensure smooth development processes.Tech Pack Ownership
Lead tech pack kickoff and maintenance (with support from Design and Tech Design), ensuring all details are complete and communicated to suppliers promptly.Oversee sourcing, testing, and approval of materials, lap dips, strike-offs, trims, labels, and packaging.Manage Brand ID relationships, development, and costing.Sample Management
Own the proto, photo, SMS, and PP / TOP sample process : organize, track each round, collect feedback, and ensure revisions are implemented.(Note : Own photo sample process through SS26.)Fittings
Support Tech and Design during fittings—attend sessions, take detailed notes, track revisions, and clearly communicate updates to factories to ensure fit accuracy through production.Costing
Collaborate with Merchandising to ensure product COGS meet target margins.Share FOB targets at kickoff with suppliers, collect costing at each proto stage, and flag cost discrepancies throughout development.Partner with Merchandising and Leadership for final negotiations.UPC Management (SYNC ERP)
Create UPCs in SYNC and send to factories.Approve UPC layouts, MSRPs, and tracking label layouts in coordination with Merchandising.Systems & Data Management
Maintain accurate development information in Centric PLM.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong organization and attention to detail.Deep understanding of the product lifecycle—from design handoff through production.Experience with PLM and ERP systems.Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.Excellent communication and follow-up skills.Strong knowledge of apparel design, construction, and market trends.Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across domestic and international teams.Education & Experience
Degree in textiles, apparel, or a related field or equivalent experience.Minimum 3 years of experience in apparel production and / or product development.This position is onsite in our Scottsdale, AZ office : Monday - Thursday with remote Friday.
