Heart House is an education non-profit that serves refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children with a holistic out-of-school and summer program, utilizing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to help them thrive in their new community. We’re located in the same Vickery Meadow area as many of these families, offering a safe space for kids to learn, gain new experiences, and grow. We’re dedicated to meeting the academic and emotional needs of refugee and immigrant children, because every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential.
About Reading Homeroom
Volunteer tutors make a profound impact by volunteering with Heart House’s Reading Homeroom program. Tutors work one-on-one with a K-5 student in a Dallas ISD elementary school, guiding them through the basics of phonics, writing, and reading comprehension with a side of social-emotional learning. Many of these students are refugee and immigrant English Language Learners and Emergent Bilinguals eager to gain confidence and thrive in their environment.
Position Summary
The Reading Homeroom Site Coordinator supports the daily operations of Heart House’s in-school reading intervention program for K–5 students, primarily refugee, immigrant, and emergent bilingual learners. This position ensures the smooth functioning of the tutoring program, coordinates with school staff, manages schedules and materials, and supports data collection and student progress tracking.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about educational equity and literacy support for children from diverse backgrounds.
