Description :

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Medical Surgical unit.

The unit has a total of 34 beds.

Patient ratios are 1 : 5 during the day shift and 1 : 6 at night.

Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).

Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, orthopedic surgeries, appendicitis, cholecystectomy, diverticulitis, bowel resection, and pancreatitis.

RNs are not required to titrate drips.

There is a charge nurse available on both shifts and a supervisor present during night shifts.

Patient care technicians are available on day and night shifts with a maximum ratio of 1 : 12.

Remote monitoring is employed for telemetry, with monitor techs providing analysis.

Nurses on the unit are not responsible for interpretation of telemetry strips.

Self-scheduling is encouraged based on census and staffing availability.

Weekend rotation requirements currently involve four weekend shifts per six-week schedule.

Holiday rotation is based on the calendar.

If canceled, staff may be placed on call with a 45-minute return notification policy.

Floating is required within the medical-surgical scope of practice.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Nurse orientation includes one shift of clinical nursing education followed by two shifts on the unit with a preceptor.

Charting is done through the Cerner Corporation - Millennium system.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not required for this position.

The care setting is acute.

This position is in the nursing division.
