Title : Remedy BMC Discovery Administrator
Duration : 12+month contract
Location : Spring / Houston, TX
Know technical details specific to BMC Discovery
Own resolution of assigned problem tickets, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend / implement fixes
Coordinate and implement application enhancements and patches
Assist with resolving appliance operating system (OS) level support issues :
Identify processes using too much memory or CPU
Resolve disk space problems (e.g. identify large files / directories)
Install required device drivers which are not provided with the appliance
Troubleshoot device driver conflicts
Address issues any DNS or IP address issues (e.g. DNS lookups, possible conflicting IP addresses)
Help with penetration testing within the OS
Resolve any file system corruption (e.g. identify corrupted files, repair file system)
Learn appliance OS configurations and customizations (i.e. configuration files and certain custom binaries)
Maintain the configuration between the Scanners, Proxies, and Consolidators
Monitor and troubleshoot discovery scan failures
Address credential problems encountered during discovery scans
Build patterns (e.g. match folder names, registry keys, system processes, etc.) through script development to find applications deployed in the environment
Understand how applications are deployed within ExxonMobil
Assist with the development of standards to more easily discover applications (e.g. common search element for custom applications)
Understand how Discovery data is used within the CMDB
Work closely with ITSM and CMDB resources on changes related to CMDB which impact Discovery
Follow proper problem management and change control procedures
Ensure security and controls standards are met and followed
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Strong background of technical skills
Quickly learn how applications are deployed at ExxonMobil
Communicate clearly
Work effectively with a global team
Coordinate multiple activities and tasks
Position Specific Skills :
2+ years technical experience using / supporting infrastructure tools
Unix / Linux administration experience via command line.
1+ years working with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, PERL, Python, VBScript, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root cause, and recommend solutions
Install / implement system patches / version upgrades
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn / understand new technologies / applications
Assist with support related project tasks for IT
Skills considered an advantage (Nice-to-have) :
Prior layering related assignment (e.g. application packaging and deployment)
