Job Summary / Description :

Performs and documents all aspects of greenhouse operations, including preparation of substrates, planting, growing, watering, fertilizing, spraying, and testing; understanding plant growth requirements, soil science, nutrient management in substrate, and integrated pest management. Oversees undergraduate and graduate student assistants, interns, and volunteers working in the greenhouse.

Typical Duties / Job Duties :

Operational management of the Greenhouse in the Angelo State duties are varied, but typical job functions include (but are not limited to) :

• Monitors and controls the computerized greenhouse environment.
• Manages greenhouse plant health inspection and pest / disease management using a variety of integrated pest management protocols.
• Oversees soil and media preparation for the greenhouse, including sterilization protocols.
• Creates and maintains policies and procedures that are cohesive with best practices.
• Writes and updates proper documentation about procedures and protocols implemented in the greenhouse.
• Develops and implements species-specific fertilization and watering programs.
• Leads, trains, and manages student workers and volunteers involved in the greenhouse.
• Interacts and communicates with faculty, students, and visitors.
• Manages the greenhouse facility and equipment and coordinates maintenance and repairs with appropriate parties.
• Maintains a clean and orderly greenhouse at all times, including insect, disease, and weed control.
• Reports greenhouse events, strategies, emergencies, and other details to the greenhouse director.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the greenhouse director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

The successful candidate should have the following traits :

Minimum Qualifications :

At least three years of demonstrated experience working in Horticultural or Greenhouse management, or a Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences or related areas. Be willing to work flexible hours. A commitment to serving and working with diverse populations and demonstrated alignment with the University’s strategic priorities and values-based culture. Preferred Qualifications :

A bachelor’s degree in biology, greenhouse management, plant sciences, or a related discipline working with plants. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
