Beach Patrol Seasonal Job
Patrols the public beach area to monitor activities of beach patrons, to promote safety and to prevent illegal conduct. Duties include educating the public, warning swimmers of potential dangers, rescuing distressed swimmers, responding to emergencies, administering first aid, reuniting lost and found beach patrons and enforcing ordinances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities : None. May assist in training probationary employees.

Education and / or Experience : Previous experience as a lifeguard desirable but not required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : CPR & basic first aid certifications are provided during the paid Surf Rescue Academy.
Language Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively speak and read English fluently to communicate with those seeking service and to issue intelligible warnings and directions to the public and fellow workers.
Mathematical Skills : Ability to understand and apply concepts such as percentages, area, distances, counting and addition. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. A risk of radiation is possible due to prolonged exposure to the sun. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
