Position Summary :

The Program Nurse is responsible for coordinating and implementing program services to meet the medical and medication management needs of the patients in the Outpatient Behavioral Health Unit. This includes close collaboration with the attending physicians, affiliated pharmacy, and Program Clinical Coordinator.

Major Position Responsibilities :

  • Patient Care :

Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patient needs and develop individualized care plans.

  • Performs medication reconciliation.
  • Supervises patient medications, maintains stock and PRN medications supply and upkeep of medical equipment.
  • Arranges for treatment of patients' medical needs, when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with the team structure to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
  • Conducts psycho-educational and individual patient education when necessary and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Serves as a member of the Treatment Team.
  • Contacts others involved in patient care regarding medication / medical treatment issues, as needed.
  • Participates as a team member in crisis intervention; assists with hospitalizations.
  • Coordinate with the healthcare team to deliver safe, efficient, and timely care.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion for patient experience.
  • Advocate for evidence-based practices in Behavioral Health care.
  • Safety and Compliance :
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hospital policies.

  • Coordinates all laboratory procedures, including Infection Control responsibilities.
  • Comply with regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA).
  • Identify and report safety concerns
  • Documentation :
  • Accurately document patient care, interventions and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to Patient Standards of Care. Coordinates and schedules patient session with attending physicians.

  • Documents as needed in the medical record.
  • Notes physician orders and follows through as needed.
  • Coordinates physician documentation in the medical record; reviews progress notes and admission assessments; tracks physician documentation compliance.
  • Professional Development and Leadership :
  • Provide mentorship to New Graduate Nurses and students, supporting their professional development.

  • Participate in continuing education and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Emergency Preparedness :
  • Respond promptly to patient emergencies with composure and clinical skill.

    Qualifications :

    Qualifications RN Experience :

  • Six (6) months of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Behavioral Health Unit or equivalent
  • Competencies : Technical Skills :

  • Knowledge and understanding of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, terminology, and medical record documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Critical Thinking :

  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to respond to acute changes in patient conditions.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands in a calm and controlled manner
  • Communication :

  • Strong patient care and communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Education :

  • Associate Degree, Nursing (ADN), required
  • Licenses :

  • Current California RN License,
  • Certifications :

  • Current BLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, required
  • Current NVCI (or equivalent for outside candidates- must obtain NVCI within 90 days of hire), required.
  • Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
