Veterinary Assistant

Location : VCA Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital Position : Full-Time Pay Range : $17.40 - $23.50 per hour

About Us

VCA Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital is a 3-doctor general practice caring for dogs, cats, and exotic pets. We are looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This role supports veterinarians and technicians in delivering high-quality care and exceptional service to our patients and their owners.

Experience in veterinary care is helpful but not required. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about animal health and wellness who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and surgeries
  • Safely restrain animals during procedures
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms and surgical areas (including sterilizing equipment and setting up supplies)
  • Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed
  • Monitor and record vital signs and animal behavior
  • Administer medications under veterinarian supervision
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update charts
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling and managing inventory
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with pet owners
  • Keep all clinic areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous veterinary or animal care experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team
  • Basic skills in animal handling and restraint
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Genuine passion for animal care and welfare

  • 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts
