Field Engineers work closely with project teams to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and schedule goals are met. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and want hands-on construction experience combined with technical coordination responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Site Layout & Surveying
  • Perform foundation, anchor bolt, and structural element layout using robotic total stations and other surveying equipment.

  • Assist with establishing control points and benchmarks for site use.

  • Conduct and document as-built surveys and ensure layout drawings are current and accurate.

Construction Support & Project Execution
  • Track and monitor daily project progress and productivity for concrete placement, formwork, rebar installation, and other key activities.

  • Maintain accurate logs of material deliveries, usage, and concrete pours.

  • Assist with material and equipment procurement in coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent.

  • Oversee field labor productivity tracking, manpower reporting, and daily time collection for field crews.

Project Documentation & Communication
  • Maintain up-to-date logs of equipment use, deliveries, and material inventory.

  • Generate and track extra work tickets, assisting with documentation for time and material (T&M) work.

  • Coordinate directly with the General Contractor (GC), owner representatives, and other trade partners to support field operations.

  • Interface regularly with the Operations Manager to align manpower and resource planning with project needs.

  • Prepare and submit submittals, RFIs, and assist with document control tasks as needed.

Safety & Quality Control
  • Actively participate in project safety programs, including:

Completing and reviewing Pre-Task Safety Analysis (PTSA) forms.

Performing and documenting Safety Audits and Equipment Inspections.

  • Ensure compliance with project-specific safety requirements and OSHA regulations.

  • Support the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Program:

Verify correct installation of embedded items, concrete finishes, formwork, and rebar per specifications.

Conduct and document quality control checks with field teams and QA personnel.

Planning & Scheduling
  • Participate in project sequencing meetings, pull planning sessions, and schedule updates.

  • Assist with development and tracking of three-week lookahead schedules and short-term planning tools.

Hands-On Field Work
  • Be available and willing to assist with physical field tasks when needed, including carpentry, finishing, and layout support during critical path operations or pour days.

Leadership Competencies

The Field Engineer role at CSI supports leadership development and growth into future operational roles. Successful candidates demonstrate:

  • Adaptability – Navigate and manage change in fast-paced environments.

  • Teamwork – Work effectively with crews, project leadership, and external partners.

  • Creativity – Propose innovative solutions to field challenges.

  • Results Orientation – Stay focused on achieving measurable outcomes.

  • Leadership Potential – Show initiative, accountability, and a commitment to learning.

  • Stamina – Maintain energy and focus during extended field operations.

  • Courage – Speak up, challenge assumptions, and offer ideas respectfully.

  • Sense of Urgency – Prioritize effectively and act decisively when timelines are tight.
