Position

Health & Safety Lead

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Health and Safety Lead will work alongside the Facilities Manager to ensure that all facilities remain in compliance with environmental requirements consistent with their licensing, certification, and accreditation. The Health and Safety Lead serves as the organizations Health and Safety coordinator and is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure the highest possible degree of safety for Claratel Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the day-to-day subject matter expert on safety drills and inspections and associated external requirements.
  • Act as a backup to the Facilities Manager on matters related to environmental safety and emergency response management.
  • Lead the Health and Safety Workgroup in collaboration with the Quality Improvement Department.
  • Conduct and coordinate internal and external on-site inspections, including inspection of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarms, AEDs).
  • Coordinate internal drills to ensure safe working and living conditions and appropriate emergency response practices at all sites.
  • Conduct unannounced compliance visits to assess programs and services for compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and licensing requirements.
  • Assist with the review and updating of emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Work with the Facilities Technician Lead to ensure environmental safety of all facilities owned, leased, or managed by Claratel Behavioral Health.
  • Partner with programs and services to provide technical assistance on safety and environmental compliance and licensing requirements.
  • Conduct agency training on workplace safety practices.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and risk mitigation efforts from drills, inspections, and compliance findings.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain role-specific certifications.
  • Assist with departmental projects to support the organizations mission and strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a related field or 3 years of experience.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Class C Drivers license.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Two or more years in a similar role in a human service or behavioral health organization.
  • Experience conducting compliance audits or health and safety reviews.
  • Inter-Relationships

    Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; works well as part of a team; attends interdepartmental meetings; professional and personable with a willingness to improve health, safety, and environmental compliance across facilities and service locations.

    Working Conditions

    The job is typically 8 : 15 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., with occasional evenings, overnights, and weekend shifts to accommodate drills and inspections on rotating shifts. Travel to other Claratel Behavioral Health locations for compliance visits, drills, inspections, and technical assistance is frequently required. Must operate agency vehicles for travel between sites.

    Needed Attributes

    Ability to work independently on recurring tasks at remote sites; meet strict deadlines; be a great team player; conduct objective evaluations, write clearly, and speak before groups; comfortable using technology.
