Position Summary :
The Pediatric and Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services for children and adolescents experiencing behavioral and mental health disorders. The PMHNP will collaborate with Arizona Total Care’s outpatient clinics and field teams to support youth clients and their families. This position is primarily office-based , with telehealth services available to reach patients in remote or underserved areas. The PMHNP will work closely with clinic staff for care coordination, insurance pre-authorization, and caseload management .
Job Requirements and Qualifications : Minimum Required Education :
- Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing
- Completion of a certified Advanced Practice Program in Psychiatry / Mental Health with training in pediatric and adolescent populations
Minimum Required Experience :
1–2 years of direct patient care experience in child and adolescent psychiatryDemonstrated ability to work effectively with children, teens, and their familiesPreferred Experience :
3+ years as a psychiatric provider working with pediatric or adolescent populationsExperience with telehealth psychiatry servicesLicenses / Certifications :
Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a PMHNPActive and unrestricted APRN license in the state of ArizonaValid and unrestricted DEA license in ArizonaCurrent CPR / BLS certificationValid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance CardMaintain credentials and licensure with major insurance providers (with credentialing support from Arizona Total Care)Other Skills Required :
Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) documentationStrong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teamsProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to write clinical documentation and present case details in both written and verbal formatsCapable of making sound, independent clinical decisionsStrong organizational skills and a commitment to collaborative, team-based careWorking Conditions / Environment :
Full-time : 40 hours / weekSchedule : Monday–Friday, 8 : 00 AM – 5 : 00 PMEssential Duties and Responsibilities :
Assess, diagnose, and treat pediatric and adolescent patients with behavioral and emotional disordersPrescribe and manage psychiatric medications according to best practices and clinical guidelinesComplete documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome tracking, and billing entries in a timely mannerDevelop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for youth patientsOrder and interpret laboratory or diagnostic tests to aid in evaluation and treatmentPrepare reports, summaries, and documentation for insurance and regulatory purposes as requiredMake independent decisions based on clinical protocols and national pediatric psychiatric treatment guidelinesMaintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as payer requirementsEducate and support patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and ongoing careParticipate in clinical trainings, in-services, and staff meetings to stay current on pediatric psychiatric best practices
