Sr. Environmental Compliance Coordinator

SUMMARY OF POSITION :

The Environmental Compliance Coordinator ensures and maintains site-wide environmental and regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. This role supports assigned departments or units and works collaboratively across the site to uphold high standards of environmental performance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and regulatory requirements, including air, water, and waste.
  • Confirm required monitoring and data acquisition activities are performed; verify implementation of recordkeeping systems and retention of documentation to meet site and agency standards.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports to federal, state, and local agencies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Serve as an HSSE Department representative in site and departmental meetings, addressing environmental and regulatory concerns.
  • Track and manage waste activities, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, profiling, manifesting, scheduling transport, and disposal in coordination with the site Waste Specialist and / or Environmental Engineer.
  • Oversee the LDAR contractor and program to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct and support incident investigations and root cause analyses; drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Participate in and lead internal environmental audits, gap analyses, and compliance inspections at the unit and site levels; develop and implement action plans to resolve findings.
  • Review and maintain environmental compliance content within operating procedures and HSSE standards.
  • Complete monthly monitoring and reporting of environmental performance metrics.
  • Support and participate in the site Emergency Operations Center (EOC) rotation as the environmental liaison to government agencies during emergencies.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate environmental regulations clearly and effectively to stakeholders.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Able to collaborate with consultants and contractors to ensure project compliance.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing facility, refinery, or similar industrial setting.
  • Practical knowledge of EPA and LDEQ regulations related to air, water, and waste compliance.
  • ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Media-specific expertise in water, groundwater, and deepwells regulatory compliance.
  • Experience as an environmental engineer, coordinator, or specialist assigned to a petrochemical process unit or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in air quality permitting and / or compliance.
  • Familiarity with industrial waste management, LDAR programs, and incident investigation processes.
  • EDUCATION :

  • Minimum Required : Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental science, or a related science field.
