Job Description
The Network Administrator supports and maintains the network infrastructure across multiple campuses statewide. This role will focus on Juniper switches routing security and ensuring reliable network connectivity for students faculty and staff. The ideal candidate has experience managing multi-campus / location networks troubleshooting complex issues and collaborating with IT teams to support academic and administrative services.
The salary range for this position is $64525.03 - $74043.15
The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and experience.
Essential Functions
The employee will demonstrate TSTCs Core Values of Excellence Accountability Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders customers students and community members.
Network Infrastructure Management
Configure deploy and maintain Juniper switches and routers across statewide campuses.
Manage Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols including VLANs RSTP / MSTP BGP OSPF and DHCP. Support firewalls VPNs and WAN connectivity.
Assist in migration efforts from legacy equipment to modern solutions.
Network Security and Compliance
Implement and monitor 802.1X authentication firewall rules and network access control policies.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including FERPA and HIPAA.
Support Wi-Fi security and network segmentation for various user groups.
Troubleshooting and Technical Support
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 network support partnering with local IT and help desk staff.
Use monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Document troubleshooting processes and infrastructure changes.
Strategic Planning and Documentation
Support campus network upgrades capacity planning and performance optimization efforts.
Maintain accurate network documentation including topology maps and change logs.
Contribute to business continuity planning and technology evaluations.
Education Experience & Skills
Required Qualifications
3 years of experience in network administration ideally in a higher education or large-scale environment
Experience with Cisco Juniper or Extreme networking platforms
Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies including TCP / IP VLANs BGP OSPF QoS and subnetting
Experience with firewalls VPNs WAN technologies and security policy enforcement
Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark tcpdump and Junos CLI
Effective communication troubleshooting and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise with Juniper equipment (EX QFX SRX MX series)
Juniper or equivalent certifications (JNCIA JNCIS JNCIP)
Experience with wireless networks VoIP and cloud / hybrid network environments
Scripting and automation skills (Python Ansible PowerShell) for network management
Experience supporting SD-WAN DIA and unified communication systems

Security and Integrity Requirement
As a condition of employment and continued service in this position which involves access to or work on critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code the employee must demonstrate the ability to maintain the security and integrity of that infrastructure. This includes undergoing routine reviews to assess eligibility based on factors such as criminal history or any ongoing connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary as designated under 15 C.F.R. 791.4 . Employment in this role is contingent upon meeting these security-related qualifications and remaining in compliance with them throughout the duration of employment.
