Building Services Electrician
The city of Las Vegas invites applications for Building Services Electrician. This position performs skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems including building, conduit systems for telecommunications, security, life safety, motors, and other electrical systems; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
This is the full journey level class within the Building Services Electrician series. Employees within this class perform the full range of skilled electrician duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Receives general supervision from a supervisor and higher level staff.
A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The examination for this recruitment will be a written examination, weighted 100%, and will be used to place candidates on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
Written test date : Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Study guides are not available for this particular test. Examination content will be based on the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in this job posting. Applicants who are selected for the written test will be notified by email after the application closing date. Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Experience : Two years of increasingly responsible journeyman electrical experience.
Training : Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by specialized training in the electrical fields.
License or Certificate : On the date of application, must possess or have completed any one of the following four :
Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion of an OSHA-10 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor.
As a condition of continued employment, employees must acquire and maintain a Nevada Electrical Card as a Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician within 6 months of the date of appointment.
Possession of an Explosive Tool Use certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a Forklift Certificate from the City of Las Vegas within 6 months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of an appropriate aerial lift certification from the City of Las Vegas within 6 months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter. Possession of a Photovoltaic Installer License issued by the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Nevada OSHA) within 6 months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a Fire Alarm certificate within one year of date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
