Traffic Management Department Director

Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate the activities and operations of the Traffic Management Department which is comprised of the Traffic Engineering, Traffic Operations, and Traffic Management Center Divisions.

Essential Functions :

• Consult with management personnel to determine short range and long range goals and develop implementation plans to achieve each objective;
• Perform complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing, directing and supervising the Traffic Management Department, including Professional Engineers, supervisors, administrative and technical personnel in the traffic signal, signs and markings sections, as well as city-wide fiber optic communications system;
• Lead the City's fiber optic infrastructure team, developing goals, designs, maintenance plans, and GIS mapping of the City's fiber optic network;
• Prepare yearly operations and capital budget for Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations;
• Establish Traffic Management policies and procedures;
• Update upper management of departmental concerns and issues regarding requests from citizens and upper management;
• Attend and participate in hearings, neighborhood meetings, City Council meetings and various other public meetings to provide information regarding Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations projects, budgets, and activities;
• Review engineering plans and specifications prepared by Traffic Engineering, other City departments, consulting firms, and other outside entities;
• Review and sign pertinent ordinances, and contracts;
• Act as the liaison to the Citizens Traffic Commission;
• Serve as a member on the Metropolitan Planning Organization's Traffic Advisory Committee;
• Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications :

Completion of a Bachelor's degree in engineering with an additional 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in traffic management and operations, including supervisory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience. Professional Engineering License within the State of Texas is required.

Valid Texas Driver's License;

Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas

Consideration for Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)

Consideration for Public Administration degree

This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.
