SECURITY DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY : The Security Services Department provides a safe and secure environment of the facilities and its occupants across Aultman Health System.
PURPOSE OF POSITION The System Security Director is a management position responsible for leading and directing Aultman’s overall security strategy. This includes managing the security workforce, physical security, and the technologies associated with these functions. The System Security Director develops and supports security operations and the effectiveness of the Security Services Department as directed by the Vice President of Facilities & Support Services. The System Security Director is responsible to plan and direct Aultman campus programs across the health system, including but not limited to, policies, procedures, performance, and operational effectiveness. This role ensures that Aultman’s facilities are protected from threats, and that the security department complies with all relevant regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, emergency management, or another related field required.
- 5+ years in the healthcare security industry with increasing levels of responsibility is recommended.
- Valid driver’s license with 4 or fewer points required.
- Prior or current military or law enforcement experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Has demonstrated communications skills with groups of 25+.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term security vision and strategy for the organization.Lead, train, and manage a team of security professionals.Provide coaching and mentoring to ensure high standards of performance and ethics.Oversee the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of all security-related technology, including access control systems, video surveillance, hardware, and software.Manage the annual budgets for security services at all Aultman campuses.Collaborate with other department leaders to integrate security measures into broader organizational processes.Create and maintain up-to-date security policies and procedures for all colleagues, ensuring proper and timely resolution of security incidents.Complete ongoing department and organizational competency requirements (i.e. firearms related certifications and competencies, self-defense, crisis prevention and intervention training, TASER certification, CPR / First Aid, etc.).Maintain liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.Maintain public relations with visitors, patients, and outside agencies.Initiate investigations and background checks when needed; review organizational operations to detect criminal activity; investigate losses which occur at the hospital; and implement processes to reduce potential losses.Represent the institution in matters pertaining to crime in or against the institution; file complaints, and / or testify in court.Oversee security staffing and operations at assigned facilities with focused emphasis on sensitive areas.Develop and implement systems for the surveillance and security of the physical plant, parking lot, equipment, and of patient, colleague, and visitor populations.Create and maintain department manuals and protocols for use by security officers.Maintain all records, reports, statistics, and files as required.Follow up on all reports of events and recommend action where appropriate.DEPARTMENT : Security Services
REPORTS TO (Position Title) : Vice President, Facilities & Support Services
POSITION :
Participate in the hospital Safety Committee and Emergency Management Committee advising members of codes and regulations, incidents, trends, and appropriate changes to safety policies.May consult with Administration regarding occupational health and safety regulations and expansion of facilities or services as related to these areas.Responsible for ensuring department level colleague relations functions prepares job descriptions, interviews, evaluations, and discipline.Establish, implement, and evaluate departmental training programs, schedules, and performance.Responsible for the orientation of new colleagues and security training for management and colleagues.Oversees the completion and documentation of security-based assessments at foundation locations. Uses assessment data to recommend program improvements and / or performance improvement processes.Maintain professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars.Research / benchmark industry best-practices and use research information / data obtained to contribute to strategic system and program investment and improvement.Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Facilities & Support Services or senior leadership.Completion of International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) training within one year of appointment.SKILLS
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to handle a wide variety of circumstances and conditions.Knowledge of, and ability to develop, troubleshoot, and manage security infrastructure systems.Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products.Ability to interact with patients, employees, and other occupants in an appropriate manner.Ability to receive, understand, and implement direction from management and senior leadership.Ability to develop technical reports and documents.Ability to analyze industry data and develop strategy.WORKING CONDITIONS :
Primarily dayshift, M-F. Department requires 24x7 coverage. May be required to work off-shifts, weekends and / or holidays at the discretion of the Vice President of Facilities & Support Services.May be required to work on-call.May be assigned to different locations within the foundation.Primary uniform is business casual attire; may be required to wear security duty uniform as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ADDENDUM
