About the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.

About the Pediatric Psychologist Position

The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences seeks a Pediatric Psychologist to provide broad clinical services across varied settings and modalities, including integrated and co-located healthcare venues, tele-mental health, subspecialty pediatric clinics and traditional mental health outpatient clinics. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program .

The Pediatric Psychologist will conduct direct behavioral and mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief and long-term interventions, and interdisciplinary team consultation.

This faculty member will provide clinical practice in integrated inpatient medical settings and outpatient behavioral health settings with a specific focus on working with women and families in the perinatal period, particularly those with medical complications in the perinatal and / or neonatal period.

Essential Functions :

Inpatient Clinical Services in the NICU at Dell Children's Medical Center

  • Complete health behavior assessments and interventions in the neonatal intensive care unit (Interventions in the NICU are provided to address factors related to the infant's medical condition, health, and wellness).
  • Complete health behavior and mental health assessments and interventions in the labor and delivery units with women and families experiencing pregnancy complications.
  • Provide dyadic interventions to enhance bonding and optimize health outcomes
  • Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and team rounds.
  • Provide consultation to multidisciplinary providers and staff in these units.
  • Provide timely documentation and billing.

Inpatient Clinical Services in the Special Care Delivery Unit (SDU) at DCMC

  • Provide psychological evaluation and management for women and partners in the Special Care Delivery Unit
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and rounds
  • Provide consultation to multidisciplinary providers and staff
  • Provide timely documentation and billing
  • Outpatient Clinical Services at the Comprehensive Fetal Care Center

    Provide mental health services (individual, group, and couples / family) to women and partners with medical complications in the perinatal and / or neonatal period through in-person and telehealth modalities.

  • Provide brief mental health services to women in the perinatal period, including those experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss and / or infertility.
  • Provide brief mental health services to women and partners during pregnancy or postpartum with perinatal depression, anxiety, trauma and other concerns.
  • Develop and lead wellness promotion groups for women and families in the perinatal period
  • Provide palliative behavioral health care and bereavement support, as necessary
  • Training / Education and Program Activities

  • Supervise clinical health psychology postdoctoral fellow(s) in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings
  • Provide relevant didactics for learners across health disciplines.
  • Design and deliver educational sessions / activities for staff, providers, and community providers related to mental health services for women, infants, and families with medical complications during or after pregnancy.
  • Engage in quality improvement, program evaluation, and research activities as part of the CFCC / NICU psychosocial team

    Qualifications

    Required :

  • Doctoral degree from an APA or CPA accredited program in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology
  • Completion of an APA or CPA accredited internship in psychology
  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child and adolescent or pediatric psychology
  • Unrestricted license to practice psychology in the State of Texas or ability to obtain prior to appointment
  • Eligibility and commitment to pursue board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at The University of Texas Dell Medical School.
  • Preferred :

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience as a licensed psychologist providing clinical services via tele-mental health
  • Experience working in public school systems and community outreach
  • Clinical teaching experience
  • Experience with infants, parents, and / or families in multidisciplinary team settings during pregnancy and post-partum
