Position Description
Under general supervision the Paralegal assists with collecting unpaid toll amounts by supporting in person and virtual Administrative Hearings creating dockets and filing legal documents. Individuals in this role will be responsible for managing litigation deadlines monitoring payment plans drafting post-judgment payoff documents and preparing reports while entering defendant PII into database systems. Additional responsibilities include meeting with toll road users to coordinate payments and clarify balances and handling administrative tasks such as mailing printing and record organization while reviewing and refining Standard Operating Procedures.
The Paralegal is expected to possess strong organizational and communication skills attention to detail the ability to manage a large caseload and proficiency in legal software and document management systems.

Requirements

Education and Experience :
An Associates degree or higher in Paralegal Studies or a closely similar field and
Three (3) years of experience working as a paralegal.
OR
Paralegal certificate or diploma and
Three (3) years of experience working as a paralegal.
OR
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a paralegal.
Licensure :
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities :
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
Proficiency with technology and legal tools such as Microsoft Office 365 Westlaw and PDF software.
Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines and goals and efficiently handle a very large caseload ensuring each case is managed and tracked appropriately.
Ability to draft a wide range of legal documents with accuracy and clarity.
Ability to self-motivate / initiate and implement a high degree of quality control.
Ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to comply with office policies and training requirements.

General Information
Located in downtown Houston the Harris County Attorneys Office represents Harris County government the Harris County Flood Control District the Harris County Toll Road Authority and the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network in all civil matters including lawsuits. The office also provides legal advice to county officials and employees.
Position Type and Typical Work Schedule :
This is a full-time position with the typical work hours of Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Occasional weekends holidays and overtime may be required based on the specific needs and demands of the department.
Work Environment and Physical Demands :
T his position is performed in a typical office setting and involves regular use of standard office equipment including computers telephones scanners and filing cabinets.
The work is primarily sedentary involving extended periods of sitting with occasional walking or standing as needed.
In some cases the role may require standing for extended periods depending on the task.
The position also requires manual dexterity with frequent use of hands for fine motor tasks such as typing data entry or handling small tools and equipment. Physical exertion is minimal though the role may occasionally involve lifting or moving items weighing up to 10 pounds.
Compensation :
The base compensation for this position will be determined on the candidates qualifications and the pay of other employees in the job function. Total compensation includes attractive paid leave programs health benefits and retirement plans.
In addition the position is eligible for the accrual of compensatory time off for hours worked over 40 in a workweek consistent with Harris County personnel policies and procedures.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
