POSITION OVERVIEW :
Community Outreach Navigator : The Community Outreach Navigator supports Spectrum Medical Care Center’s mission to provide inclusive, affirming sexual health and primary care services.
This role is responsible for providing HIV / STI / Hepatitis C testing and education, supporting linkage to care, and promoting prevention services including PrEP, PEP, and DoxyPEP.
Outreach Navigators engage with diverse communities through Spectrum’s mobile testing unit, clinic-based services, social media outreach, and community events.
They help reduce barriers to care, connect individuals to supportive services, and build awareness of Spectrum’s role in ending the HIV epidemic.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Community Outreach Navigators are expected to :
Facilitate community-Based Testing & Education Ability to complete wellness exams on community members. (Blood pressure, blood sugar and basic wellness tests.) Perform HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C testing, including venipuncture / phlebotomy for lab specimens.
Provide sexual health education and risk-reduction counseling in clinic and community settings.
Link individuals to Spectrum services or external providers for primary care, PrEP / PEP, behavioral health, and other supportive services.
Document and track testing, referrals, and linkage activities in Spectrum’s systems (EHR / Medsis / other modalities).
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on HIV, STIs, PrEP / PEP, DoxyPEP, Hepatitis, and vaccination services.
Outreach & Community Engagement Conduct outreach at community events, campuses, nightlife venues, health fairs, and partner locations, including frequent evenings and weekends.
Support mobile unit operations for testing, education, and vaccinations.
Provide culturally competent, non-judgmental engagement with LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and other priority populations.
Participate in social media and digital outreach efforts to increase awareness and engagement.
Assist in gathering community feedback and identifying emerging needs.
Collaboration & Partnerships Support Spectrum’s presence at community meetings, events, and coalitions.
Assist in relationship-building with community organizations to expand outreach and referral networks.
Represent Spectrum professionally and support the Outreach Supervisor in recruitment, event planning, and program growth.
Data & Reporting Collect and report outreach and test data accurately and on time.
Support evaluation of outreach strategies to meet program benchmarks.
Maintain confidentiality of all patients and program information.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent with 1 year of phlebotomy training / experience.
Preferred Qualifications Associate or bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, health education, or Medical Assistant Certification.
Work Experience Required :
Previous experience in community outreach / public health, with direct engagement of diverse populations.
Required :
Phlebotomy experience (venipuncture for HIV / STI / Hepatitis testing).
Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, or other underserved populations strongly preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Valid Driver’s License (required).
HIV testing certification (may be obtained upon hire).
CPR / BLS certification (may be obtained upon hire).
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Strong communication skills; comfortable engaging diverse groups and individuals.
Understanding of basic STI and HIV terminology and sexual health language.
Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to reducing stigma.
Comfortable with public speaking and one-on-one conversations.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Bilingual (Spanish / English) preferred but not required.
