About the Role
You’ll be an early-career member of the estimating team, learning how to create cost estimates for commercial, medical, office, and other types of construction projects. This role is perfect if you’ve just completed a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or similar, and want to grow into an estimator role with hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing detailed estimates : material take-offs, labour, equipment, subcontractor quotes.
- Work with senior estimators to review project plans and specifications.
- Research and source pricing for resources in your region including subcontractors, suppliers, and material markets.
- Support the development of bid packages.
- Help with value engineering : identify cost savings without sacrificing quality.
- Maintain an up-to-date cost database.
- Track historical costs and assist in analyzing discrepancies.
- Coordinate with other teams (project management, procurement, field) to gather needed input for estimates.
- Learn and use estimating software and tools.
- Presentation support : prepare estimate summaries and assist in bid proposals.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.Strong math, analytical, and problem solving skills.Good communication skills, both written and verbal.Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.Eagerness to learn; takes direction well and proactively seeks feedback.Familiarity with standard construction cost estimating software is a plus (but not required).
