Senior Customs Entry Writer Supply Chain Seffner, FL - Fully On-Site Full-Time About Our Client Our client is a leading national furniture retailer with a strong presence across the United States. With decades of experience in the home furnishings industry, they specialize in providing quality furniture and home décor to customers nationwide. They operate multiple distribution centers and maintain a robust supply chain network that handles imports from around the globe, primarily from Asia. Job Description As a Senior Customs Entry Writer, you'll serve as a key member of a specialized customs team, taking on greater responsibility for ensuring seamless customs clearance operations. This senior-level position offers the opportunity to work within a team of approximately 10 customs professionals as part of a larger Supply Chain department of 35 people. You'll be responsible for the complete lifecycle of customs entries-from analyzing and validating documentation to preparing, submitting, and monitoring cargo release and entry summary information filed with U.S. Customs through the Automated Broker Interface (ABI). In this role, you'll go beyond standard entry processing by monitoring ETAs across all U.S. ports of entry, prioritizing clearances to ensure shipments are released before arrival, and serving as the primary clearance monitor when the Customs Manager is unavailable. You'll interact directly with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, analyze complex import data using advanced Excel functions, and communicate clearance status to stakeholders at all organizational levels. Since the company specializes in furniture imports, you'll develop deep expertise in this product category while handling shipments primarily from Asia, including China, Malaysia, and India. This role is perfect for someone who has independently researched customs regulations and compliance requirements and is ready to take ownership of critical clearance operations in a fast-paced environment. Duties and Responsibilities Analyze, validate, and annotate import documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness Prepare, submit, and monitor cargo release and entry summary information with U.S. Customs via ABI Enter and transmit accurate customs data through the Automated Broker Interface Validate product classifications in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and General Rules of Interpretation Monitor vessel ETAs and prioritize customs entries to ensure clearance prior to arrival at all U.S. ports of entry Track entry status proactively and resolve clearance problems to prevent delays Serve as the primary customs clearance monitor when the Customs Manager is unavailable Communicate directly with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials to resolve issues Analyze reports and cross-reference data using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, data analysis) to ensure accuracy and make informed decisions Communicate clearance status and resolve discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders across all organizational levels Collaborate with customs team members on daily activities and complex problem resolution Submit Post Summary Corrections to U.S. Customs as needed Review ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) reports to monitor compliance and entry status Required Experience / Skills Minimum 2-3 years of experience with customs entry processing and U.S. Customs regulations Demonstrated experience with ocean imports and customs entry procedures Proven track record of independently researching customs regulations, rules, and compliance requirements (not relying on another team to handle research) Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, processes, and compliance requirements Advanced understanding of the import supply chain process Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills (analyzing reports, working with pivot tables, and using data to make informed decisions) Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present and communicate with all levels within the organization, agencies, and vendors Strong attention to detail and advanced analytical skills Ability to think independently, take corrective action, and resolve inquiries decisively with confidence Ability to multi-task, prioritize work strategically, and meet demanding deadlines Capacity to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high efficiency and accuracy Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to sudden changes in workflow Ability to work with and maintain sensitive and confidential information Nice-to-Haves Prior knowledge of ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) reports Experience working with furniture or home goods imports Familiarity with imports from Asian markets Knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule specific to furniture products Experience serving as a backup or lead for customs operations Experience communicating directly with Customs and Border Protection officials Education High school diploma or equivalent required Pay & Benefits Summary Salary Range : $60,000 - $70,000 per year Relocation assistance available ($3,000 - $5,000 depending on distance) Comprehensive benefits package Opportunity to advance within a specialized customs compliance team Note : This position requires successful completion of a drug screening and background check.
