Director, Quality

SUMMARY

The driving force behind our growth at Mueller is the leadership of skilled and dedicated people. The Director of Quality is responsible for the development of the Plant Quality Managers to ensure all plants deliver quality products to customers in a timely fashion. The role is charged with driving a standardized quality system across all Mueller sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS DUTIES / RESPONSIBLITIES

Primary accountabilities include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Direct, lead, and execute the long- and short-term strategy to ensure sustainable results that meet or exceed all quality KPI's.
  • Standardize procedures and measurements across all sites.
  • Update and Maintain Mueller Quality procedures with the involvement of the Plant Quality Managers.
  • Improve TTC for all company 8D's, both external and internal.
  • Work closely with the operational excellence team to implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify / prioritize / provide resources to assist the Plant Quality Managers to meet the annual operating plan and budgetary commitments.
  • Emphasize training and implement control systems on multiple shifts to eliminate product discrepancies.
  • Commit to employee feedback and developmental processes.
  • Support and emphasize the Safety and Quality commitments of all plants.
  • Build and maintain credibility in professional relationships with superiors, colleagues, and subordinates.
  • Monitor, identify and develop skill gaps to ensure leaders and employees are ready for the next phase of Mueller's development.
  • Work to create / maintain a positive culture based on company Values.
  • Work to engage employees and ensure high performance.
  • Drive lean and statistical process control throughout all sites by ensuring standard utilization of Lean Six Sigma practices.
  • Develop an audit process and schedule.
  • Facilitate an elevated level of employee participation on teams and in events to foster high involvement, accountability, and results.

  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • LEAN Six Sigma implementation.
  • 15+ years specialized experience in quality assurance, total quality management.
  • Strong prior experience of identifying and closing skill gaps of direct reports.
  • Working in manual and automated manufacturing roles.
  • Experience working with rubber injection and compression molding is a plus.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • 15+ years progressive work-related experience with demonstrated proficiency in the discipline / technology / process related to the position as well as 7+ years managing people directly.
  • Strong experience in the successful implementation of LEAN Six Sigma.
  • Experience in looking at ways to further automated processes with continued improvement and efficiency in mind.
  • Experience in coordinating a multi-site operation.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Periodic travel to the six US Based production facilities
  • Must be able to walk around in an industrial plant safety sensitive environment on an ongoing daily basis.
  • Must have good manual dexterity (use of hands and fingers) to use a computer, copier, fax, phone, and multiple pieces of industrial equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend stairs.
  • The person in this position must be able to manage a team, communicate with leadership, and other departments daily, so the ability to speak & communicate clearly and accurately is essential.
  • Position requires the ability to hear and see as this person will be on the plant floor in safety sensitive areas daily.
  • Must be able to work in both a plant (loud noises, cold / hot environment, machinery running) and office environment.
  • Must be able to function in a high-pressure production type environment.
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Less than 50% required
