Description

Are you a relationship builder who enjoys connecting generous people with meaningful causes? Do you have a track record of success in donor development, church engagement, or community outreach—and are looking for a mission that matters?

Black Mountain Home for Children is seeking a Development and Community Relations Officer to join our dynamic development team. This is a key role for someone who understands that fundraising is about relationships—built on trust, shared values, and a passion for making a lasting impact.

For over a century, Black Mountain Home has provided safety, stability, and unconditional love to children from birth through college age—and beyond for those with developmental disabilities. As we grow to meet the complex needs of children in our care, we're looking for a professional who can help grow the base of financial partners who make this work possible.

What You'll Do

  • Cultivate and steward a portfolio of mid-level donors, churches, and community partners.
  • Work closely with the VP of Development and other team members to strategize outreach and strengthen donor retention.
  • Communicate with donors, follow up, and provide personalized touchpoints throughout the year.
  • Represent the Home at events, church visits, and small group gatherings—sometimes as a speaker, always as an ambassador.
  • Collaborate with the team on seasonal campaigns, events, and donor appreciation efforts.
  • Contribute to an office culture that is warm, creative, and deeply committed to the mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledgeable in Raiser's Edge or similar donor database platforms.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in development, sales, ministry, or community engagement
  • Are energized by face-to-face and phone conversations, and genuinely enjoy helping people see their giving in action
  • Can manage a portfolio with care, attention to detail, and strategy.
  • Write well, speak confidently, and follow through.
  • Are seeking to support a Christian ministry and are comfortable connecting with a variety of church communities.
  • Are self-motivated, yet thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Bonus points if you are familiar with western North Carolina and its church and community culture
  • This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits. Apply today for the opportunity to do work that changes lives every single day.
