The Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver Float provides direct care within residential group homes in NE & SE Portland and will provide support to individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I / DD). This is a full time permanent position.
This position requires a dependable candidate who is flexible in their schedule works well independently and has exceptional communication and decision-making skills. Float DSPs are adaptable and will have the necessary skill set to be able to work at multiple homes.
What Youll Do
- Provide client care in a float capacity for schedules emergencies or fill-in assignments at designated residential homes (schedule for shifts subjected to change based on needs of programs however schedules are given two weeks in advance.)
- Enrich and support the lives of our residents while maintaining a safe and healthy environment
- Provide companionship and personalized care with respect and dignity while encouraging independence and self-care.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including dressing bathing grooming toileting and eating.
- Prepare meals and snacks.
- Light household duties
- Provide mobility and transfer assistance which may include using mechanical lift devices.
- Assist with transportation needs for community outings appointments and errands
- Implement positive behavior supports and de-escalating challenging behaviors when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
1 years of DSP / Caregiving experience with individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities is required.Must have valid drivers license & vehicle to travel between programs and provide transportation to clientsMust be able to work flexible hours (day / swing shift and weekend availability required)Must be able and willing to learn different supports from medical to behavioralHave a passion to help othersWorks well independentlyDependable and adaptableExcellent communication and decision-making skillsAble to follow written and verbal instructionsGood communication is key in this role.
