PM Shifts Available :

4-10's from 2p-12am 5-8's from 3 : 30pm-12 : 30am

The Medical Laboratory Scientist will verify patient identification and produce reliable and accurate test results using aseptic technique, universal precautions, and accepted procedures of infection control.

  • Familiar with the implementation of new laboratory equipment, Roche, Stago and Sysmex.
  • Perform all waived and moderately complex tests as defined by CLIA ’88 in an accurate and timely manner including Chemistry, Hematology, etc
  • Assist manager in developing and implementing new processes, including validation, quality control and record keeping.
  • Ensure operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; arranging for repairs
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following laboratory standards and procedures while complying with legal regulations of OSHA, HIPPA, CLIA, and Department of State Health Services

Essential Job functions :

  • Oversees the daily testing of all assays performed in the Laboratory.
  • Oversees the maintenance of all equipment in the Laboratory.
  • Understand QC and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understands and assist Lab Manager with validation and verification of new instruments.
  • Processes / evaluates patient specimens in accordance to SOP, including reference lab specimens. Resolves issues with specimens that are time / temperature sensitive.
  • Performs daily temperature and humidity checks for room, refrigerators, freezers.
  • Performs routine instrument maintenance following manufacturer’s specifications (including startup and shut down) and documents appropriately.
  • Corrects basic instrument malfunctions and documents them. Communicates instrumentation status to appropriate staff members and notifies vendor to schedule service calls.
  • Performs instrument calibrations following manufacturer's specifications.
  • Utilizes standard quality control practices in decision making to ensure reliable testing and proper regulatory compliance.
  • Performs and approves specimen testing using sound judgment and evaluation. Releases results in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Performs proficiency testing in a manner and time frame that is consistent with good laboratory practice.
  • Demonstrates competence by utilizing LIS for all applicable functions to perform job duties, including downtime procedures.
  • Demonstrates good judgment with problem solving skills. Takes appropriate action to resolve issues regarding problem specimens / orders.

  • Participates and disseminates daily lab communication via written and / or email.
  • Qualifications :

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a certified Medical Technology program or related field or an equivalent. ASCP Certified, preferred.
  • Successful completion of Medical Laboratory Science. course of study.
  • Three-Six-year experience of general laboratory testing.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, and CAP, COLA and CLIA testing requirements. .
  • Computer / data entry skills.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace, communicate in a clear and effective manner, and read / follow procedures accurately. )
  • United States Certification – ASCP, AMT, HHS, OR approved equivalent.
  • Experience with LIS and EMR is a plus
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English; excellent time management skills and customer service skills
  • Experience :

  • Prefer 3-6 experience working as a technologist; general laboratory experience required. Knowledge of Clinical Medical Laboratory basic operation required.
  • ASCP or equivalent
  • ROCHE and STAGO preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of new Laboratory systems / equipment implementations preferred.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing / bending, walking lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling)
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment
