Job description

Shape Futures by Empowering Speech and Language - Become a Speech Language Pathologist in the Dynamic Landscape of Washington, D.C.

Overview

Imagine a career where every syllable you help a patient articulate contributes to a greater sense of independence and confidence. As a Speech Language Pathologist in the vibrant heart of Washington D.C., you will not only treat communication and swallowing disorders but also play a pivotal role in nurturing lives - from children mastering their first sounds to adults navigating recovery after illness.

This position is a remarkable chance to impact a diverse population, providing care that spans the spectrum of age. Your expertise in both outpatient therapy and the occasional inpatient setting will allow you to cater to each individual's unique needs, whether they involve pediatric voice development, adult language recovery, or geriatric speech rehabilitation.

Description

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients using a combination of standardized assessments and clinical observation techniques.
  • Create individualized therapy plans that target immediate needs as well as long-term communication, cognitive, and swallowing objectives.
  • Deliver tailored speech therapy sessions focusing on various areas such as communication, language remediation, fluency enhancement, voice modulation, and swallowing techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing staff, physicians, families, and caregivers to ensure holistic care delivery.
  • Educate patients and their families to facilitate progress beyond the clinical environment.
  • Occasionally provide inpatient speech therapy assessments and interventions to maintain a seamless continuum of care.
  • Document clinical interactions accurately and in a timely manner as per state, federal, and institutional standards.
  • Engage in ongoing education and professional development to stay abreast of advancements in the field.

Education

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited educational institution.
  • Completion of a supervised Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), pending ASHA certification.
  • Certifications

  • Licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist in Washington, D.C.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred with ASHA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first month of employment.
  • Skills

  • Expertise in evidence-informed therapeutic approaches adaptable to individuals of all ages, underscored by an understanding of speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, fostering strong relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility in adapting therapy methods to accommodate diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical abilities and clinical judgment for assessing patient needs.
  • Proficient in electronic medical record systems and compliance with documentation protocols.
  • Benefits

  • Attractive compensation based on experience.
  • Flexible work schedules designed to promote balance between work and personal life.
  • Simplified pathways to specialize in areas including pediatrics, neuro rehabilitation, or geriatrics.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and holiday benefits.
  • Various medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans available.
  • Support for continuing education pursuits and professional growth.
  • Emphasized team-oriented approach dedicated to delivering superior care while advancing lifelong learning.
  • Find Your Voice in a City that Thrives on Connection

In this role, your contributions as a Speech Language Pathologist go beyond directives and therapy sessions - you're stepping into a mission to hearten individuals, connect communities, and foster genuine understanding through communication.

You will collaborate with a team devoted to fostering a supportive and familial atmosphere where each clinical journey is valued, and every patient narrative matters. Together, you will craft new beginnings and facilitate transformations.

Discover the Lifestyle of Washington, D.C.
