Job description

Company

Join one of the nation's largest MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design-build firms, renowned for delivering comprehensive lifecycle solutions for intricate building systems. We provide a collaborative approach that combines design, construction, energy, and service to offer maximum value. Our diverse portfolio covers multiple sectors, including healthcare, mission-critical facilities, education, infrastructure, and commercial development.

Position Summary

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer , you will be pivotal in establishing the engineering framework for our design-build projects. Collaborating with senior engineers, project managers, construction teams, and BIM specialists, you will design innovative, cost-effective, and constructible MEP systems that enhance building performance from concept through construction and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

  • Direct the design and layout of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP / FP) systems for sophisticated commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection utilizing tools like Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, Revit, and Excel-based models.
  • Collaborate with the BIM / VDC team to create and develop construction documents, drawings, schematics, riser diagrams, and specifications.

Modeling & Documentation

  • Use Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software to generate 3D models and coordinate system layouts with different trades.
  • Support the project lifecycle, including drawing submittals, updates, and as-built documentation.
  • Engage in clash detection reviews and model coordination via Navisworks or BIM 360.
  • Engineering Analysis & Optimization

  • Perform pressure drop, load, and energy analysis to ensure system performance and sustainability standards are met.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and assist in life-cycle cost analysis and energy performance modeling.
  • Ensure designs adhere to codes (ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA), building regulations, and client specifications.
  • Design-Build Integration

  • Work collaboratively with construction, estimating, and procurement teams to guarantee constructibility, cost-efficiency, and smooth design-to-build transitions.
  • Support prefabrication initiatives through coordinated model reviews and comprehensive component breakdowns.
  • Contribute to design-build kickoff meetings, constructability evaluations, and equipment strategy discussions.
  • Client & Team Collaboration

  • Participate in design meetings with owners, architects, consultants, and internal teams to present ideas, gather insights, and implement feedback.
  • Assist in drafting project design narratives, submittals, and basis-of-design documents.
  • Address RFIs, submittal comments, and design change requests from construction partners and stakeholders.
  • Professional Development

  • Continuously enhance knowledge of industry trends, materials, systems, and tools through internal training and mentorship.
  • Champion sustainability and innovation initiatives such as LEED certification, Net-Zero strategies, and new technology integration.
  • Engage in QA / QC reviews and lessons-learned processes to promote best practices.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • 10 years of engineering experience in MEP design or construction is essential.
  • Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and engineering tools such as Trane TRACE, HAP, or SKM.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling, system controls, prefabrication techniques, and sustainability practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
  • Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with a proactive attitude and a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
