Job Description
What you’ll impact
Drive the performance of Turning, Milling, and Grinding operations for complex medical devices. You will lead new product programming, elevate legacy programs for throughput, standardize code to current best practices, and research and implement new tooling and process technologies—collaborating across functions to meet production goals.
A day in the life
You start your day reviewing models and prints for a new implant line, selecting tools, speeds, and feeds based on shop standards, customer specs, and machine capabilities. Midday, you’re on the floor setting up and proving out first-article parts on a multi-axis cell, then revising code to remove inefficiencies. In the afternoon, you huddle with Quality Engineering to finalize Process Control Plans and Manufacturing Inspection Plans, and close the day documenting standard programming methods that can be deployed across multiple sites.
What you’ll do
- Program diverse CNC platforms (milling, turning, grinding; multi-spindle, multi-axis, Swiss) across multiple sites to support critical, high-value medical device, implant, and instrument projects.
- Interpret drawings, 3D models, and sketches to define cut strategies, tools, speeds / feeds, and machine parameters aligned with shop processes and customer requirements.
- Partner on process development and DFM with internal and external teams.
- Continuously refine and update CNC programs to eliminate errors and integrate new methods / technologies to improve efficiency and on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineering to develop Process Control Plans, Manufacturing Inspection Plans, and determine gaging / fixturing needs.
- Perform machine set-ups to produce first-article components and short-run NPI work; support occasional small production runs.
- Design fixtures for downstream / post-processing operations.
- Adhere to the TOMZ Quality Management System and perform other duties as assigned.
