Job description

Cytotechnologist Macon, GA Mon-Fri 8 : 30am-5pm Up to $5k Sign-On Bonus & $2k Out-of-state Relocation Assistance Duties : Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Processes and screens cytologic specimens according to procedure and screens microscopic slides for diagnostic evaluation. Issues diagnostic reports on cytologic material. Issues final diagnostic reports on negative GYN cases and provides preliminary diagnoses on all remaining cases that are evaluated further by a Pathologist. Performs and documents quality control and quality assurance activities appropriately. Provides workload documentation. Assures quality of fine needle aspirations. Maintains identification of patient specimens while processing. Processes cytologic specimens in absence of cytoprep tech, maintaining correct and complete patient identification at all times. Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and / or airborne diseases. Uses engineering controls, work practice controls and appropriate personal protective equipment as indicated in the section task list. Assists in the training and orientation of less experienced employees, students, and others as delegated. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education. Performs work without allowing personal situation / perspectives to compromise lab operations. Adjusts schedule to meet changes in workload or at the direction of the manager. Schedules appointments on days off when possible. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing. Provides age appropriate FNA collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for neonates, infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and / or late adults. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific factors as necessary to assist in performance of fine needle aspiration. Utilizes knowledge of age specific data and modifies approaches for identified patients Skills : Ability to listen and communicate effectively Technical ability and interest Ability to work cooperatively, team player Position requires working first shift five days / week Education : Completion of a 4-year BS or BA degree in cytotechnology, biology or life sciences and completion of an accredited cytotechnology program. Cytotechnologist (CT) (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
