Brevard County Backhoe Operator

Operator (Backhoe)

Craft : Pipe Reports To : Foreman Exempt Status : Non-exempt (hourly)

Position Objective / Description : Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a backhoe for laying and backfilling water, sewer and storm drain lines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Drives and uses bucket of the backhoe to dig, excavate and move dirt, rock, gravel or combination.
• Observes markings on the ground, hand signals and stakes to remove material.
• Read and interpret site plans and blueprints, survey markers and stakes.
• Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to beginning work.
• Avoid hazards or obstructions to ensure efficient operation of the backhoe.
• May be asked to run other equipment, including dozer and loaders.
• Maintain cleanliness and good condition of trucks.
• Perform minor maintenance to include cleaning, lubricating and refilling equipment.
• Check fluid levels and change implements or attachments.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• Work closely with ground crew to achieve project objectives.
