Job Description

Purpose :

Under the general administration of the Chief Medical Officer & Chief Growth Officer, collaborates with and is accountable to the Physician for health care assessment. Identifies, diagnoses and treats human responses for actual or potential health care problems for individuals and families. Provides such services as case-finding, health counseling, implementation and evaluation of primary health care as well as management of and referral follow-up of identified care gaps; Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate primary health needs and addressed urgent / emergent health needs for Ambulatory Care practices at both South Brooklyn Health & Ida G Israel.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities :

The Nurse Practitioner is charged with and responsible for :

  • Perform History & Physical examinations
  • Order routine diagnostic testing, e.g., laboratory, radiologic, etc.
  • Ongoing medical documentation in the medical record, e.g., progress note, etc.
  • Refer for appropriate consultation (s).
  • Address identified patient care gaps and refer to additional imaging or specialty care as needed.
  • Order medications and write prescriptions subject to Section 6902 (3) (b) of the New York State Education Law.
  • Perform minor procedures and diagnostic testing, e.g., EKG, IV, phlebotomy, injections, NG tube, urinary catheterization, suturing, cultures, etc.
  • Education and counseling of patients and families.
  • Perform more advanced procedures and ACLS with documentation of appropriate training and documentation of competency.
  • Medication refills
  • Other duties as required within the scope of practice

Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and

2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and

3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Benefits

In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement :

An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below :

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
  • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
  • An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed.

    An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

    For NP (PC / BH) ONLY : An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department AND regularly working evenings / nights
