Job description

Emergency Dispatcher

Salary : $4,123.00 - $5,262.00 Monthly

Location : Gold Beach, OR

Job Type : Full-Time

Closing Date : Continuous

Position Summary

Receives emergency and business calls and dispatches law enforcement officers, fire and ambulance equipment. Does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Corrections / Communications Sergeant. An employee in this position requires certification by DPSST.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An employee in this classification may perform any of the following duties. However, these examples do not include all specific tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Receive, process and prioritize 911 calls for police, fire and emergency medical services.
  • Dispatch police, fire and emergency medical services; maintain contact with all units on assignment; maintain status and location of police, fire and medical units.
  • Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.
  • Monitor and operate a variety of communications equipment, including multiple radio frequencies, telephone and computer systems.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public.
  • Provide "pre-arrival" medical instruction via telephone.
  • Performs a variety of clerical and record keeping duties involving criminal matters being processed by the Sheriff's Office.
  • Monitors burglar alarms; makes appropriate notifications.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision of other employees is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.

Qualification Requirements

Ability to interpret and give both verbal and written instructions

Ability to maintain composure and calm others in emergency and stressful situations.

Ability to analyze situations quickly and make sound decisions in emergency and routine situations.

Ability to comprehend and interpret laws, rules and regulations and directives.

Ability to exercise good judgment and common sense in application of established policies and procedures.

Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously.

Ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio and telephone.

Ability to input and retrieve computer data quickly; type 45 wpm

Ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Education and / or Experience

High school graduation or equivalent GED certificate.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedure; computer equipment; proper English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Special Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years old and have a valid Oregon driver's license.

Possession of or ability to obtain within one year of employment Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.

Curry County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) complies with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Benefits

The Sheriff's Department employees are covered under the Oregon Teamsters Employers Trust Regence BCBSO Plan. This coverage has a $250.00 deductible per person and includes health, dental and prescriptions. The medical is a Preferred Provider plan and covers 80% for preferred providers and 70% for non-preferred. The dental plan provides 75% coverage for the first year, 85% the second year and 95% the third year and thereafter as long as the covered individual goes to the dentist once every calendar year. The vision plan is provided by VSP with a $10.00 co-pay for exam every 18 months and a schedule of other benefits provided. The plan also includes a $2000 life insurance benefit and short term disability. The employee portion for health insurance is currently zero even for full family coverage. The County has agreed to contribute $75.00 per month to a Health Reimbursement Agreement (HRA VEBA). Coverage begins the first of the month following 80 hours worked. DENTAL COVERAGE IS EFFECTIVE AFTER 3 MONTHS.

After 6 months of employment employees become members of PERS if they work in a position that requires 600 hours in a year. Employees pay their 6% pre-tax portion.

Vacation & sick leave hours are accrued at 8.00 hours per month (or proportionate to percentage of hours worked if less than full time) for each full month worked.

VACATION IS AVAILABLE FOR USE AFTER THE EMPLOYEE HAS WORKED FOR SIX MONTHS AND AT THAT TIME THEY ARE CREDITED WITH 6 DAYS (48 HOURS) OF VACATION TIME.

TEAMSTER SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPRESENTED EMPLOYEES WILL RECEIVE 96 HOURS OF HOLIDAY IN JULY OF EACH YEAR.
