Job Title : Floor Technician (Floor Tech)

Job Summary :

The Floor Technician is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, and restoration of floor surfaces in commercial, residential, or institutional facilities. This includes sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming various types of flooring such as tile, carpet, vinyl, and hardwood. The Floor Tech ensures all floors are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and appearance.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and buff hard surface floors using industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Vacuum and spot-clean carpeted areas; operate carpet extractors for deep cleaning.
  • Follow proper procedures for chemical use, safety, and disposal.
  • Maintain floor cleaning equipment and report any malfunctions or required repairs.
  • Move furniture or equipment to access floor surfaces.
  • Follow schedules and instructions from supervisors or facility managers.
  • Comply with OSHA and facility-specific safety and infection control standards.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies such as floor finish, pads, and cleaning solutions.
  • Assist with general custodial duties as needed.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Floor Technician or in commercial cleaning preferred.
  • Ability to operate floor care machines (buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of floor care techniques and cleaning products.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, or holidays if required.

    • Work Environment :

  • Indoor work in commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, or residential facilities.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise from machinery, and occasional wet / slippery surfaces.
