Job Description
UPW (Ultrapure Water) engineering
involves the design, operation, maintenance, and improvement of systems that produce ultra-pure water, a highly purified water essential for high-tech industries like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and electronics manufacturing. UPW engineers work to ensure water quality meets stringent standards 18.2 megaohm-cm resistivity), manage system performance, handle maintenance and upgrades, and troubleshoot issues. This role requires a strong background in chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering.
Key responsibilities
System Management : Owning and maintaining the entire UPW system, including monitoring performance, analyzing trends, and ensuring safe operation.
Project Execution : Planning and implementing engineering projects such as upgrades, retrofits, and expansions for UPW and wastewater treatment systems.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving : Responding to system interruptions, conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and applying problem-solving methods.
Process Improvement : Researching, developing, and implementing technology upgrades to improve water quality, reliability, and safety.
Quality Control : Ensuring the water meets specific quality parameters, which can include monitoring for contaminants like dissolved minerals, salts, organic compounds, and microorganisms.
Capacity and Cost Management : Tracking system capacity, planning for future needs, and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
Required skills and qualifications
Education : A degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience : Significant experience with ultrapure water systems in design, construction, commissioning, and / or operations, often with a focus on industrial or high-tech facilities.
Technical Proficiency : Strong knowledge of process technology, safety protocols, and relevant software like AutoCAD.
Analytical and Communication Skills : Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for interacting with various teams and management.
Project Management : Experience in facilities engineering, project management, and troubleshooting is often required.
