MISSION : The Correctional Managed Care program addresses the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients.
• Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
• Perform admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
• Review and, under supervision, modify the plan of care using the nursing plan of care.
• Observe, record signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including the physiological status of patients; propose revisions of interventions and outcomes.
• Deliver designated nursing interventions consistent with the state medical plan of care.
• Notify appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status; recognize priorities and potential crises within multidisciplinary treatment plans.
• Follow physician orders in delivering nursing care.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
• Safely administer medications and treatments; execute written physician orders for assigned patients.
• Assemble equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures; perform or assist with procedures or treatments.
• Adhere to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques.
• Document nursing care in all assigned patient records.
• Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.
• Perform related duties as required.

Required Education / Experience

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.

Work Environment

Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. A security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

Equipment

Standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.
