MISSION : The Correctional Managed Care program addresses the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients.
- Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
- Perform admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
- Review and, under supervision, modify the plan of care using the nursing plan of care.
- Observe, record signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including the physiological status of patients; propose revisions of interventions and outcomes.
- Deliver designated nursing interventions consistent with the state medical plan of care.
- Notify appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status; recognize priorities and potential crises within multidisciplinary treatment plans.
- Follow physician orders in delivering nursing care.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
- Safely administer medications and treatments; execute written physician orders for assigned patients.
- Assemble equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures; perform or assist with procedures or treatments.
- Adhere to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques.
- Document nursing care in all assigned patient records.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.
- Perform related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience
High school or equivalent.Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program and current license / permit as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas.No experience required.Current BLS-HP required.Recent graduates with temporary permits will be considered.Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
Work Environment
Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. A security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

Standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.
