Must-Have : Strong understanding of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer maneuvering for optimal cardiac visualization.
Description :
To provide high-quality ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels for adult patients.
Technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing is required.
Handle other duties as assigned.
Perform high-quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels.
Identify EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias.
Utilize knowledge of age-specific needs of patients in daily responsibilities.
Understand imaging and doppler techniques for specific clinical questions.
Demonstrate use of M-Mode techniques for measuring cardiac dimensions at precise times of the cardiac cycle.
Estimate severity of valvular insufficiencies by mapping dimensions and orientations of regurgitant jets using color flow doppler.
Assess blood flow through the heart, noting increased velocities, stenosis, regurgitation, and shunts using pulsed and continuous-wave doppler.
Use contrast echocardiography when necessary.
Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions and document wall motion abnormalities.
Recognize both common and complex congenital heart malformations and acquired pathologies.
Complete studies according to protocols and present additional views and calculations when required.
Correlate clinical history with the examination and consult with the cardiologist for clarification.
Monitor, record, charge, and communicate appropriately utilizing a computerized documentation system.
Prepare and assist patients for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms.
Assist in transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
Communicate results to the cardiologist and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics.
Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and report equipment failures.
Participate in regional mobile echo / vascular services.
Document procedures correctly and accurately assess patients' ability to perform tests.
Interpret and clarify physician's orders accurately.
Provide thorough assessments during patient crises, notifying physicians when necessary.
Display proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias.
Complete quarterly competency assessments.
Operate ultrasound equipment effectively, adjusting controls to produce interpretable images.
Select the appropriate transducer for optimal resolution and penetration.
Obtain and document relevant patient history and clinical data for diagnostic results.
Knowledge of gross and sectional anatomy is required.
Proficient in recognizing abnormalities and distinguishing normal from abnormal findings.
Fluent literacy in English is necessary.
Basic computer knowledge in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing is required.
