SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Job Summary :

The Speech Language Pathologist shall be responsible for providing a full range of speech-language pathology services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, and problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his / her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.

Performance Expectations :

Performance Expectations that are job specific will be covered during your department orientation. You will be assessed for your competency of these expectations during your first 90 days of employment

• Demonstrate the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and / or patients per the physical / environmental demands specified below.
• Demonstrates proper, secure documentation in the Electronic Medical Record
• Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking with patient evaluation and treatment planning
• Demonstrates understanding of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, vocalization, auditory and memory skills utilizing age-specific patient care indicators as it relates to each related diagnosis and treatment approach
• Able to perform patient evaluations with use of appropriate functional tests / measures and demonstrates the ability to assimilate objective measures along with social factors, medical stability, activity restrictions, participation limitations or other relative comorbidities to determine functional deficits and construct short term goals, long term goals and personal / family goals with an appropriate frequency and duration in order to establish the therapy diagnosis and appropriate plan of care
• Identifies the general growth and development stages
• Appropriately identifies learning needs of patient or family members
• Works as a team member to assist patient / family at all points of entry into the outpatient therapy care system : appointment process, registration, evaluation / treatment, scheduling
• Provide other job duties as assigned or provide job duties in other therapy departments as assigned

Qualifications : Education / Skills

The incumbent is required to be a graduate of a Masters level program in speech-language pathology which is either accredited by the Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet ASHA certification requirements. The incumbent is required to possess current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or be CCC eligible; required to hold current license issued by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Work Experience :

Education / experience serving people with physical disabilities is preferred. May be a recent graduate.
