Job Description :
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician to support our ophthalmology practice in Annapolis, MD. This role is ideal for individuals who are already certified ophthalmic assistants or technicians; however, we are also open to training motivated candidates who are eager to build a career in ophthalmology. The Ophthalmic Assistant will work closely with providers to deliver outstanding patient care by performing diagnostic procedures, assisting in clinical tasks, and supporting administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist providers with diagnostic, treatment-oriented, and administrative procedures.
- Take detailed medical histories and verify patient information.
- Perform visual function and diagnostic tests, including :
- Applanation tonometry
- Refraction
- Retinoscopy
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as Humphrey Field Analyzer and OCT for eye measurements.
- Record and communicate changes in visual acuity or other vision-related concerns to the ophthalmologist.
- Dilate patients’ eyes in preparation for exams.
- Educate patients on the proper use of eye drops, medications, and contact lenses.
- Support inventory management and maintain clinical supplies.
- Ensure all work adheres to healthcare standards, compliance regulations, and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician preferred.Willingness to undergo on-the-job training if not yet certified.Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word).Strong communication skills with a focus on patient care.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a clinical or ophthalmology setting.Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.Interest in pursuing professional certification in ophthalmology support roles.
