Firefighter Position
Nature of Position : A person in this position is responsible for performing a variety of firefighter and rescue related tasks. This is a highly physical, stressful, and demanding position. Work is frequently performed under conditions where personal injury or injury to others can occur. Personnel must be capable of reacting with speed and composure under these conditions and must exercise some initiative and independent judgment in determining proper action to take. Personnel are required to participate in training and station drills in order to maintain and increase proficiency in skills necessary to perform assigned duties.
Examples of Duties : Responds to fire alarms and emergency medical service calls with other personnel, lays and connects hose, raises and climbs ladders, searches structures to locate persons trapped or injured, uses hand tools to ventilate structures, operates motor vehicles, administers first aid, performs CPR and other emergency medical procedures as required. Carry out all instructions and orders given by line officers.
Typical Qualifications : Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid Florida Driver's license. Valid Certification as a State of Florida Firefighter II / EMT. Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check. Have the ability to pass a physical / medical evaluation.
Supplemental Information : Mandatory Training Requirements : The following training requirement must be complete within the first year. Hazardous Materials Operations Level. Incident Command (1-100, 1-200, 1-700, 1-800). Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC).
