ELEVATOR MECHANIC

Elevator Mechanic - 90710

Under supervision, candidate will inspect, maintain, adjust and repair passenger and freight elevator systems; maintain adequate elevator service to developments; provide safe elevator service to NYCHA residents. Duties shall include, but not be limited to the following :

• Lubricate and clean all components of hydraulic and electric elevator systems.
• Make adjustments as required to contactors and controllers in the electrical and hydraulic elements of elevator systems.
• Inspect and check doors, cable rails, bumpers, safeties, overloads, relays, sheaves and governors to assure continued safe operations.
• Re-rope and re-wire elevator systems as required.
• Check out troubles in all types of elevator and escalator systems.
• Perform necessary adjustments and / or repairs to all elevator mechanical and electrical components and their control systems.
• Inspect, maintain, adjust and repair escalators, platform lifts, conveyors and dumbwaiters.
• Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

Note : Eligible candidates may be required to pass a practical exam evaluating their ability to perform typical Elevator Mechanic tasks (i.e. trouble shooting, wiring door operators, print reading, etc.)

These licenses must be maintained for the duration of your employment. You will be responsible for the payment of any fees associated with the maintenance of these licenses.

NOTE : IF THIS APPOINTMENT IS MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS PURSUANT TO 65 OF THE NYS CIVIL SERVICE LAW, NO TENURE OR PERMANENCE ACCRUES TO AN INCUMBENT IN THIS POSITION BY VIRTUE OF SUCH APPOINTMENT.
