General Description
The Technical Operations Technician plays a critical role in supporting mission-essential emergency communication systems for the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). This position provides technical services and maintenance for radio communications, telephone systems, data wiring, and roadside communication infrastructure used by law enforcement and other public safety agencies. Working closely with WYDOT's Emergency Communications Program, the technician ensures the reliability and performance of communication systems vital to public safety operations and the traveling public. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installation, preventive maintenance, and upgrades to communication equipment, all of which contribute directly to the safety and efficiency of transportation and emergency response throughout the state.

Essential Functions
Preferences
Ideal candidates will have or be willing to obtain certifications such as Tower Safety and Rescue Training, ATV and Snowcat Safety Training, and specialty vehicle operation (e.g., forklift, bucket truck). The role requires the ability to prioritize tasks, work efficiently under pressure, and a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and evolving safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's Degree
Experience : 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.
OR Education & Experience Substitution : 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician I. Some agencies may require a valid Class C driver's license.
