Family Services Supervisor - Central Intake & Emergency Services Unit

Overview

Family Services Supervisor position at the Central Intake & Emergency Services Unit (CIES). CIES is a statewide child protection hotline that operates twenty-four hours a day, every day of the week, including holidays. The unit serves as the child abuse reporting system for the State of Vermont and manages after-hours emergencies related to child abuse and neglect, children in state's custody, delinquency and youth with behaviors beyond the control of their caretakers.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Central Intake & Emergency Services Unit. Duties include : review reports of child abuse & neglect to determine if an allegation meets acceptance criteria in accordance with department policy; review information that Family Services Workers have obtained from callers of the hotline to assess child safety and to determine appropriate agency response; coordinate and oversee after-hour emergency responses; provide support and supervision to Family Services Workers responding to urgent investigations and cases after-hours; coordinate foster care and other placements for children in DCF custody; collaborate with law enforcement, mental health agencies and other service providers to respond to child safety emergencies; provide information and referral to foster parents and community agencies; communicate with the department's district offices and community partners across the state regarding department policy and procedures, ensure the staffing and service provision of the various shifts within the unit are coordinated, perform administrative and hotline duties as needed to support the functioning of the unit, assist staff with technology problems and supervise staff. The schedule will allow for a four-day work week (10-hour shifts) if desired. The shifts will include at least one if not two full evening shifts and a weekend shift. If working a five day work week, two shifts a week may be worked from home, in accordance with the needs of the unit and the state's telework policies. Full schedules will be discussed during the interview process. Some stand-by shifts from home to provide phone supervision to overnight staff and some holiday shifts will be required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in an office setting although some field travel may be necessary, for which private means of transportation must be available. Occasional court appearance relative to program client needs / status may be required. Although duties normally occur within a regular weekday schedule, some evening and weekend duty may be necessary to provide necessary service and / or emergency coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in social work AND one (1) year or more of casework experience with a child protective or juvenile services caseload.

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher AND three (3) years or more of casework experience with a child protective or juvenile services caseload.

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher AND two (2) years or more of casework experience with a child protective or juvenile services caseload AND one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.

OR

Completion of a Family Services Worker Traineeship in the Department for Children and Families AND three (3) years or more of casework experience with a child protective or juvenile services caseload.
