Position Overview
The Cloud Infrastructure team at Temporal is on the lookout for a Senior Software Engineer experienced in designing and building robust distributed systems that operate at scale in production. In this key role, you will lead the architecture, development, and optimization of the infrastructure supporting the Temporal Cloud Platform. You will work closely with team members and other stakeholders to guide architectural decisions, navigate technical trade-offs, and maintain services that meet customer needs.
This is your chance to influence the core foundation of our platform while gaining in-depth expertise with the Temporal open-source server and our cloud services. The ideal candidate will be technically adept, collaboratively minded, and eager to take ownership in creating infrastructure for a rapidly growing company.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of features for our Cloud Operational API, Temporal Workflows, Enterprise Features, and data pipelines.
- Facilitate architectural discussions to establish the direction for scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our services.
- Champion a top-notch developer experience for Temporal Cloud customers.
- Evaluate and communicate practical technical trade-offs that balance customer satisfaction, reliability, and system performance.
- Own the complete service lifecycle, from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and operations.
- Enhance and scale our tools (operational tools, CI / CD, deployment systems), processes, and engineering practices.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to team engineers, elevating the overall technical standard.
Your Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years dedicated to scalable distributed systems in production.Strong grasp of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, concurrency, fault tolerance, and multi-threading.Fluency in writing concurrent code in languages such as Go, Java, or similar.Proven track record designing and operating production systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).History of guiding projects from brainstorming and design through implementation, launch, and operations.Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively in small, collaborative, high-ownership teams.Experience mentoring or leading engineers and contributing to key architectural decisions.Preferred Experience
Experience optimizing distributed systems for performance and cost efficiencies.Familiarity with building components of cloud control planes or enterprise-scale infrastructure.Knowledge of Kubernetes and modern cloud-native tools.Contributions to open-source projects related to distributed systems or infrastructure.Compensation and Benefits
The estimated pay range for this role is $180,000 - $225,000, based on experience and location.This position is also eligible for participation in Temporal's equity plan.The compensation reflects salary and commission across various geographic markets. Employment offers consider multiple factors like experience, expertise, and skill set assessed during the interview process.
