Job Summary :
The Laboratory Supervisor oversees the laboratory's daily operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant testing in accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. This role provides leadership and technical guidance to the laboratory staff while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This role coordinates schedules, monitors performance, and supports compliance with regulatory standards. Ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory : blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology / immunology, urinalysis, and coagulation. Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, and instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff to ensure quality care, professional growth, and effective teamwork.
- Coordinate staff scheduling to meet laboratory needs efficiently.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations of staff.
- Maintain compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body regulations, as well as district policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and oversees IQCP, proficiency testing, daily quality control and biannual verification.
- Monthly peer group reporting, cross over studies including precision, accuracy and method comparison.
- Review test results and reports for accuracy and completeness; assist in resolving discrepancies.
- Manage inventory of reagents, supplies, and laboratory materials; coordinate ordering to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Collaborate with clinicians, nursing, and other healthcare staff (Emergency Department, Compliance, Infection Prevention, Education / Medical Staff) to ensure effective laboratory support for patient care.
- Maintain a safe work environment and enforce compliance with infection control, safety, and hazardous material guidelines.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental planning and budgeting.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages staff engagement, professional development, and patient satisfaction.
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding best practices, workflow, and problem-solving.
Education / Experience / Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological sciences required.ASCP or AMT certification for Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, and five years of clinical experience required.Medical Assistant Phlebotomy License through the Washington State Department of Health.Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.Experience maintaining laboratory licensure requirements and related laboratory inspections (by the Washington Department of Health).Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations, documentation standards, and evidence-based practices.Review policies and procedures for effectiveness and appropriateness on an on-going basisFor more information, please contact HR at !
