AFC Transport — Lead a High-Performance Fleet Built on Excellence
AFC Transport is a fast-growing, people-first flatbed carrier committed to operational excellence, customer partnerships, and continuous improvement. As we expand our fleet and strengthen our customer-dedicated freight network, we are seeking a Director of Operations to lead our trucking operations into the next stage of growth.
This role is ideal for a strategic, process-driven transportation leader who excels at building teams, optimizing customer routes, creating repeatable operational systems, and driving performance across a blended fleet of lease-purchase drivers, owner-operators, and company drivers.
Role Summary
The Director of Operations is responsible for building the operational strategy, processes, and performance of AFC’s trucking division. This includes developing customer-dedicated routes, improving planning systems, optimizing fleet utilization, elevating communication, and ensuring that drivers have the structure, support, and tools they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Strategy
- Design, optimize, and maintain customer-dedicated lanes , ensuring strong alignment with key shippers and maximizing consistency for drivers.
- Lead the creation of repeatable operational processes , SOPs, and planning structures for a scalable fleet.
- Oversee and continuously refine the dispatch and planning model, including the 2–3 day planning cadence and partial-load optimization strategies.
- Analyze fleet performance : RPM, revenue per truck, driver profitability, utilization, fuel efficiency, and customer service levels.
- Drive operational KPIs tied to revenue, safety, fuel economy, on-time delivery, and driver satisfaction.

Team Leadership
Direct, mentor, and develop Fleet Managers, Driver Managers, and Load Planners—both in the U.S. and in Moldova.Build a high-accountability, high-coaching culture focused on driver support, planning excellence, and strong communication.Establish weekly structure : morning huddles, operational briefings, KPI reviews, and alignment with executive leadership.Work closely with the Director of Safety and the VP of Operational Excellence to ensure seamless operations and compliance.Customer & Internal Collaboration
Partner with Sales and Customer Service to expand customer-dedicated business and improve lane consistency.Work directly with key accounts on service performance, dedicated opportunities, and continuous improvement.Process Improvement & Technology
Implement new processes and technology platforms that elevate operational productivity and visibility.Ensure the effective use of McLeod, Samsara, ShopConnect, and AI-driven dispatch / planning tools as they roll out.Drive data-based decision making through dashboards, reporting, and operational insights.Communication & Leadership Alignment
Deliver clear, accurate reporting to executive leadership, including operational trends, forecasting, and KPI achievements.Establish expectations, accountability systems, and coaching rhythms for all team members.Serve as a key voice in company-wide planning, ensuring trucking operations align with strategic growth goals.Qualifications
Required
5+ years of operations leadership experience in trucking or transportation.Deep understanding of fleet operations, dispatch, planning, FMCSA regulations, and driver management.Proven experience building processes, improving operational structures, and scaling a fleet.Strong leadership skills, with experience managing both in-office and remote / overseas teams.Exceptional communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution abilities.Demonstrated success improving KPIs across revenue, utilization, cost control, and service performance.Ability to prioritize, execute, and lead under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Preferred
Experience with McLeod, Samsara or similar TMS / ELD / maintenance platforms.Background working with customer-dedicated lanes and building freight networks.Experience leading teams across multiple geographic locations, including international support teams.Benefits
