Patient Access Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Patient Access Specialist to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Lewiston, Maine. In this role, you will handle patient admissions and related administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. This position requires a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service while managing patient accounts and supporting the hospital's mission.

Responsibilities :

  • Accurately assign medical record numbers (MRNs) and perform compliance checks to ensure patient records meet regulatory standards.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions and collect necessary insurance information while processing physician orders.
  • Conduct pre-registration tasks such as gathering demographic and insurance details via inbound and outbound calls.
  • Explain consent forms and patient education documents to patients, guarantors, or legal guardians while obtaining necessary signatures.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and enter benefit data into the system to support billing processes.
  • Inform Medicare patients about non-payment risks and distribute required documents, including Advance Beneficiary Notices.
  • Perform audits on patient accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Utilize reporting systems to identify and correct errors in accounts across various departments and facilities.
  • Meet assigned point-of-service collection goals and assist patients with payment plans, including collecting past-due balances.

Requirements :

  • Proven experience in customer service, particularly in a healthcare or administrative setting.
  • Proficiency in data entry and handling patient account information.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification processes and medical necessity checks.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide compassionate service.
  • Knowledge of payment collection processes and patient financial liabilities.
  • Ability to adhere to strict regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience with quality auditing and reporting systems is a plus.
